How do I get a work permit in Saskatchewan?

The province of Saskatchewan is popularized as Canada’s breadbasket and a leading producer of potash in the country. Moreover, it involves multiple labour-intensive activities for its cropland and commercial forest area, which lead to higher demands of skilled individuals in the country. The data collected in the previous year indicate a high rate of employment in the agricultural sector of the province. Similarly, a large number of people got employment in the construction sector.

So if you are a job seeker, then Saskatchewan is a great place to work. However, in most of the situations, a foreign national is not allowed to work in the province without a work permit. There are two ways of getting work permit including,

Permanent residence:

A Permanent Resident (PR) is a foreign national with different nationality; however allowed to stay, study and work anywhere in Canada like other Canadian citizens.

Saskatchewan is one of the Canadian provinces, which has the power to nominate candidates based on the demands of its labor market. It runs down Saskatchewan immigrant nominee program (SINP) through which it manages the application of foreign nationals who wish to come there as skilled workers, students, business persons and more.

SINP has four sub-categories including, Internationals Skilled Worker Class, Saskatchewan Experience Category, Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Stream, and Saskatchewan Farm Category. An individual can apply to any of the SINP’s categories for Permanent Residence. However, if he/she is a job seeker and applying from outside Canada, then the suitable category for PR is an International Skilled Worker Class.

This sub-category welcomes skilled and experienced individuals from different part of the world to contribute to the economy of the country. It further segregates into three immigration pathways including, Saskatchewan Express entry, Saskatchewan Employment offer and Saskatchewan in-demand occupation

Now the question is, how does an individual get work permit through SINP’s international skilled worker class?
  • Check the eligibility criteria of SINP’s international skilled worker class, which include the following points:

He/she must have proof of funds to show his/her financial stability and ability to support him/her and family in the province after immigration
  • On qualifying the eligibility criteria, create an online account on online SINP’s portal and fill the application form

Through LMIA:
LMIA stands for Labour Market Impact Assessment. When an individual is not a permanent resident and wishes to work in Canada temporarily, then he/she can get a work permit through a positive LMIA.

Most employers in Canada need an LMIA before hiring a foreign national through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) for any Canadian job profile. A positive LMIA means that the Canadian employer can provide a job to a foreign national as no Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada is available to do the job.

The following are the steps which a foreign national needs to follow for a work permit in Canada through LMIA.
  • Search for a job in the province according to your previous level of education and work experience
  • If the employer in the province is satisfied with your skills and experience, then he/she need to apply to service Canada for an LMIA before hiring you for the respective job profile.
  • If the positive LMIA comes, then he/she can legally hire you and send you the copy of the same to attach with your application for the work permit to IRCC
  • If IRCC approves your application, then you can immigrate to Saskatchewan and start working here.

So, choose your way to get work permit in Saskatchewan and begin a new journey there. For further any information, feel free to contact experts of countrywide visas.
